« Happy Birthday to Eric Braeden! | Home | “Y&R” Cast Members Salute 9-1-1 Dispatchers »

April 17, 2006
The cast and crew of “Y&R” recently gathered to celebrate a huge ratings milestone: 900 weeks as the number one-rated daytime drama! We attended the party and cake-cutting on the “Y&R” stage and were caught up in the excitement as television news crews angled for a shot and flashbulbs from a dozen photographers lit up the room. Steve Mosko, President, Sony Pictures Television and Barbara Bloom, Senior Vice President, CBS Daytime Programming joined Supervising Producer Edward Scott, Headwriter Lynn Marie Latham and Lauralee Bell in giving congratulatory speeches to honor “Y&R.” Lynn even pointed out that the show has been number one since 1988! After the speeches, the cast assembled behind the fabulous cake for a photo and everyone was in celebratory spirits. Then came the Insider’s favorite part - Melody Thomas Scott, Lee Phillip Bell and Jeanne Cooper cut the first piece of cake!

Congratulations! You sure deserve being no 1 all of you! I`ve been a faithful fan of Y & R for 23 years and in my opinion, the reason for your unfailing success can be summed up in one word: QUALITY. As a viewer, I can tell that each and every one associated with the show strives for quality. Thanks again for the respect you demonstrate towards your viewers and keep up the good work!

And I've been watching for all 900! Well, except for a four-year sabatical. Long story.

As Danielle said above, it's the "quality" of the show. That, and the realism. I hope you continue to strive for that.

And hats off to the direction team for the moving camera shots in the halls of Newman, and the extras that walk the halls. I LOVE THAT! Keep it up! Actually, you need to have one of the stars give a quick nod to someone as they pass them in the hallway. "Hey, Bill, how's it going?" "Hi, Mr. Carlton." You know, that kind of quick acknowledement that happens in the every day office.

The writing has been exceptional lately, but I fear that Gloria should be working on her audition tape for her next gig. I can see no way out of this situation for her, unless she doesn't get caught. No matter what you call it, she caused someone to die. She's doing time. Sad, because I really like her. She is an excellent actress, one of the A-listers on the show.

I don't know how you're going to do it, but somehow please save Gloria!

Congrats on 900 number one episodes! (I think I've been there for most of them!)

Yes, I agree with Joe, your direction and camera shots are excellent, and SO realistic! I would LOVE to be one of those "extras" walking in the halls of Newman Towers...

As far as Gloria goes, how WILL she be able to get out of this mess? I would hate to see her leave the show as well.

I'm looking forward to watching the next 900 episodes. Thank you Y and R !!

Congratulations to the Bells, the writers and all the actors, especially the ones who were already on in December 1988 (when Y&R became #1): Jeanne Cooper, Doug Davidson, Melody Thomas Scott, Eric Braeden, Lauralee Bell, Anthony Pena, Kate Linder, Don Diamont, Jess Walton and Tracey Bregman.
I hope the writers will bring back Christine and Ricky in Paul's live. Doug Davidson is a very talented actor, and he deserves a better storyline.

I have watched Y & R since day 1. I have my daughters hooked on it too, but they didn't get to see the very first episodes! It would be great if the station could run all the old Y&R episodes in the evening as reruns (like Knotts Landing did for a long time). That way, we can go back and catch up for those who didn't get into the program from the beginning.

What an achievement! 900 weeks the number 1 daytime tv drama. As a long time loyal viewer, I wish Y&R much continued success and that the next 900 weeks be the number 1 daytime tv drama series.

I have loved the Y&R for 30 years! Glad that Victor is going to play a bigger, "take charge" role again.(it was getting boring).Any chance of the original Mac and/or Colleen coming back? The actress playing Mac now is OK, but the girl playing Colleen is...not good. How about Michael Damien returning as Danny? Oh, the possibilities!

can someone tell me why john abbott is off the show. i know he is in prison, but is he sick or something? AND when are you going to get rid of Gloria, she is so boring, this story line of her and Kevin is way over the top. I tape y&r everyday, but I am glad you now are on soapnet.
GET RID OF GLORIA

I love this show. The writers and actors are awesome. BUT, I am tired of Miss goody -two -shoes- Sharon. Has she forgotten the time after Cassie's death that she made a play for Victor, her own husband's FATHER ? I guess just one little , seductive kiss on your father-in-laws lips doesn't count. Sharon needs to get over herself. SOON !!!

Bring back the original Lilly Winters!!!

Posted by: April at May 10, 2006 10:49 AM

I LOVE the show! Been watching for as long as I can remember. When I was a teenager, we used to record the show and my mother, sister and myself would watch it when we came home from school. I'm 36 now and I still watch every day! Melody Thomas Scott is so beautiful. She's always been gorgeous. She's been my favorite since the beginning. Sharon has also been one of my favorite characters. Although, I think she's being a little too unforgiving about Nick's affair. After all she's been unfaithful, abandoned her family, and made a move on her father in law. It just doesn't make since for her to pretend that she's never done anything wrong. I liked the old Lilly, but the new one is doing a great job and her and Daniel make a cute couple. As far as Gloria... I like her, too. She plays her part well. She really gets me stirred up sometimes! I like that. Just one question, isn't Lauren a little too old to be having a baby? She's been on the show since I was a kid! She still looks great, but it just seems strange to me. Nick is so hot!!!! How could Sharon not forgive him? Not believable! Ashley and Phyllis are also two of my favorites. The new Colleen is great, don't care for the new Mac. I would like to see Jack get a new love interest. Maybe Cricket! Brad's part is really getting good! What's up with the stolen identity thing? Good stuff. I like it. Keep up the good work. You guys do a great job. I look forward to seeing all of you every day!

Gloria is still walking around as if nothing has happened. She may have killed somebody and burned and hospitolized quiet a few but still roaming around obliviouse to the pain and damage she caused.
Very unethical. sotry lines like this which has such a moral dilema should be resolved quickly.
Brad and sharon are very twisted, through all this I feel terrible for Victoria. Couldnt Sharon find a guy who wasnt just married to get even with Nick. I can't wait for every one to find out what sharon has done.

Posted by: torang root at June 11, 2006 4:35 PM

The only soap I watch and have watched since day one! PLEASE leave Sharon and Nick together. I want at least one couple to make it through their marriage; bumbs and all.

P.S. Judith Chapman is the best thing that's ever happened to Y&R. NEVER let her go!

Since I was 10 I watched Y & R and 32 years later I'm still enjoying each episode! I am so happy for everyone behind the scenes and for the actors, writers, crew, etc. You are an awesome cast! I miss seeing Christine and I wish she and Paul would rekindle their relationship, they were good together. I remember Tracy and wish she would come back on the show. Michael is my favorite male character, he is really fun to watch with Phyllis & Lauren, too. I really like Jack and want to see him happy with one good lady. I hope Neil & Drucilla will get passed the fact that Malcolm is Lily's father. I want to see them happy together and see Neil get a seat on the board, he is loyal to Victor. I wish Cassie didn't die because I remember when she was small and started on the show. She was so cute and I wanted Sharon to be happy having her daughter & son with her and Nick. I want John to come home and have a great family reunion that would be a wonderful way to see Tracy, Jack & Ashley together with their dad. Thanks for bringing a great show to day time television and thank you to soap net for showing it at night! Love it!!
