Last Saturday, the Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held in the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood. These important awards honor many of the technical people who work behind the scenes in daytime television. Several “Y&R” cast members attended to show their support, including Melody Thomas Scott, Jeanne Cooper, Michael Graziadei, Amelia Heinle and Greg Rikaart.

Kate Linder, who is a newly elected Governor for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, attended as well. Kate even opened the show in a hilarious flight attendant spoof! She appeared on video in a “stewardess” uniform and gave the Emmy audience a “briefing” on what to expect. “Please secure your own oxygen mask before helping your agent, manager or publicist,” she said to a big laugh.

Michael Graziadei was psyched because he got to present three awards during the ceremony - especially since one of the awards went to “Y&R”! He was thrilled to announce that we won the Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Technical Direction/Electronic Camera/Video Control for a Drama Series.

The exciting night continued as “Y&R” went on to win three more Creative Emmys, including Best Original Song: “Sunshine,” Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for a Series, and Outstanding Achievement in Make-up for a Series. (The Insider wasn’t counting, but that was more than any other daytime drama.)

Then Jeanne Cooper came on stage to close the show, and the crowd went wild. Jeanne was hilarious, joking that show - at nearly three hours - was too long. Jeanne was a big hit and closed the show in style. Of course, once the show was over, you all know where you could find the Insider: at the buffet! The event was catered by Wolfgang Puck, and featured three different stations: Mediterranean Flavors, Classic American and Asian Flavor, plus a delicious dessert table.

Here’s hoping that the “Y&R” winning streak continues Friday night during the Emmy telecast. Good luck to our remaining nominees!

Last week was National Dispatchers Week, and some "Y&R" cast members headed downtown to pay L.A.’s 9-1-1 dispatchers a visit and thank them for the important work they do. The dispatchers are huge "Y&R" fans and were thrilled when Don Diamont and Joshua Morrow showed up one morning to say hello! Later that day, Kate Linder, Davetta Sherwood and little Darcy Rose Byrnes got a special ride downtown in a police car to visit the dispatch center. Seven-year-old Darcy was excited to take her first trip in a "black and white," but it was old hat for Kate, since she participated in the same event last year!

Once they arrived at the dispatch center, the kind ladies in the communications center presented the actresses with some delicious chocolate chip cookies. After a fun snack, they headed in to meet the dispatchers, pose in photos and sign autographs. The dispatchers demonstrated what their difficult jobs are like, and Kate and Davetta even got to listen in on a few 9-1-1 calls. Everyone had a great time, and the actors can’t wait to go back again next year!

The cast and crew of “Y&R” recently gathered to celebrate a huge ratings milestone: 900 weeks as the number one-rated daytime drama! We attended the party and cake-cutting on the “Y&R” stage and were caught up in the excitement as television news crews angled for a shot and flashbulbs from a dozen photographers lit up the room. Steve Mosko, President, Sony Pictures Television and Barbara Bloom, Senior Vice President, CBS Daytime Programming joined Supervising Producer Edward Scott, Headwriter Lynn Marie Latham and Lauralee Bell in giving congratulatory speeches to honor “Y&R.” Lynn even pointed out that the show has been number one since 1988! After the speeches, the cast assembled behind the fabulous cake for a photo and everyone was in celebratory spirits. Then came the Insider’s favorite part - Melody Thomas Scott, Lee Phillip Bell and Jeanne Cooper cut the first piece of cake!

Eric Braeden celebrated his birthday on Monday, April 3 by spending the day at - where else? - the “Y&R” set. As a matter of fact, Eric’s storyline is getting so intense these days that he didn’t finish work until 10:00 p.m.! But Eric returned home late that night and was delighted to find his entire family waiting to wish him a happy birthday, including his two-year-old granddaughter Tatiana.
