It hardly seems like any time has passed since last year’s Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony in New York, but the voting has already begun for the 2006 nominees. Last Saturday, many “Y&R” cast members, directors and producers, as well as members of the casting and hair and make-up departments, gathered at Disney Studios in Burbank -- along with representatives from the other daytime dramas - for the voting panels to determine this year’s Daytime Emmy nominees. “Y&R” takes the Emmy voting process very seriously, so naturally we had a big turnout at the panels. Now we just have to wait for the big day - February 8-when the nominees are announced!

Last Friday night, the Insider had a bird’s eye view as daytime stars gathered at the posh Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills for the Golden Boomerang Awards, which are presented by TV Soap Australia magazine. “Y&R” cast members Eric Braeden, Christian LeBlanc, Doug Davidson, Lauralee Bell, Michelle Stafford, Joshua Morrow, Michael Graziadei and Kate Linder all joined in the festivities, which included some surprise Australian guests: two members of the Sydney Swans, Australian Football League champions! Eric, who is an avid sports fan, had a great time introducing the pair.

Later in the show, Eric received a very special honor: The TV Soap Hall of Fame Award, for his lifetime achievement in daytime television. He was greeted by a standing ovation and a huge show of support, especially from the “Y&R” section!

Tonight the Insider has managed to finagle a seat to the Golden Boomerang Awards! These awards are presented by the readers of TV Soap Australia magazine, in a fun and exciting award ceremony in Beverly Hills. “Y&R” is a big hit in Australia, where we’ve been airing for decades, although the episodes are about six months behind!

Don Diamont celebrated his birthday on New Year’s Eve, and his fiancée Cindy surprised him with a special gift - a puppy! “Cindy called me to go sit on the couch and close my eyes. I opened my eyes, and she was holding the little puppy. It’s a girl, a black Labradoodle (Labrador and Poodle) and her name is Tessa.”

The proud “papa” is clearly enamored with the little dog. “She’s adorable,” he says. “And really smart.”
