« On Location with Ed Scott | Home | Happy Birthday to Don Diamont! »

December 29, 2005
Here are some more highlights from Ed Scott’s busy night at the recent “Y&R” location shoot. During the shoot, dramatic scenes were taped in which Tom was shot in a snow-covered alley.

9:15 p.m.
One thing you always have to do when you bring a gun out on a stage or on a set, is you have to open it up, and everyone that’s involved with the thing looks at it, makes sure it’s unloaded and plugged, and safe, because we don’t want to kill anybody ahead of time!

9:45 p.m.
Now I had to tell everybody to start getting scared, because this has got to be for real!

10:00 p.m.
Never having shot anyone in my life, I just have to make it up when I tell the actors how to do it. They’re wondering where I came from and why do I know all this.

I have a question Will anyone save Lauren and she will be re-united with Michael

hi! Love the show! But why did they kill Tom off? and why didnt he get the chance to tell Mikey that Lauren is alive!!!!!!???!!?? All the surprises are killin me! and I think that J.T. shot Tom! Why is Y & R letting 3 cast members go???

Why would anyone put Jack Abbott at the head of any company? Most of his business schemes have failed (he lost part of the family business to Newman; he never thinks of new ideas for Jabot; all of his current business decisions are based on how he can stick it to Newman vs. how can I grow this company? I think the writers need to spend some time with actual business people (maybe even the manager at Starbucks, where they probably write most of their stuff) to get a sense of how actual businesses are run.

I don't believe you actually have had to experience a scenerio,in order to inspire your actors to perform their best. A good director, who knows his/her actors and has a clear mental image of what he/she wants, is able to achieve a successful outcome. Obviously, Ed Scott is at the top of his art form. Congratulations on the excellent outcome of this shoot.

If I am not mistaken, Miss Carter and Miss Fenmore, with Terrible Tom, returned to Genoa City in a Van, though this could be contradicted by a Development on the first US Episode of the New Year.

Poster Claire, if anything, I like Mr. Jack Abbott even less than you, and regret Mr. Bergman saying that he welcomes that Character's Return? to the Dark Side. Though I do respect Mr. Bergman as an Actor, I nonetheless wish, as a prominent Former Television Talk-Show Hostess used to do and hopefully still does, that he would return to Pine Valley and resume playing a Doctor on TV, hoping that Dr. Warner was more virtuous than "Smilin' Jack" usually is!!!

I here join one other Poster in this Thread in wishing the _Y&R_ Cast, Crew, and all of you here on the Insider Blog, including its Administrator(s), the very best for 2006, further thanking the Latter _VERY_ much for making this _EXCELLENT_ Service available to us!!!

Congratulations on a suspenseful location shoot! I'm sorry to see the end of Tom - Roscoe Born is a fantastic actor and Tom was one of the best villains the show has had - but what a way to go!
The outdoor remotes add so much more excitment and realism to the show. They are a real treat for viewers so thanks to everyone involved! Happy New Year to everyone at Y & R and thanks for such great entertainment.

Posted by: kshap at December 31, 2005 10:14 AM

Is it just me - or does anyone else think they should test Y&R on Prime Time? After the success of the oldies like Dynasty, Dallas, and Knots Landing, and the newbies like Desperate Housewives, why not try it?

I may miss other Prime Time shows---but never miss my daily recording of Y&R! Think of the folks who used to be Y&R viewers but had to go to work...bring 'em back! The actors are superb, the storylines evoke emotions...what's the problem with this idea?

Posted by: BBB at December 31, 2005 12:21 PM

Wow, that quick camera shot showing John after he shot Tom was very well done! Again, I am very sorry the Tom character is dead, but Roscoe really did a fine job of acting in that scene. He had me feeling like he was trying so hard to fix things. This story line is exceptional, but you will have a hard time keeping things interesting now. I am really not wanting to tolerate long drawn out jail and court scenes again. I liked it when action was moving things along. I think John will not remember anything, then finally remember and confess. It isn't like Ashley (the character) to put her father before her child is it? I thought the Ashley character was a more devoted mom than that. The John character has had his life and should be responsible for his own actions! Also, as for Sheila (Character) didn't she have a daughter when she was on Bold and Beautiful? I thought she was free and living near the Forresters for awhile, trying to get her daughter into the fold, and not in a mental institution. I couldn't watch the show all the time back then, so what did I miss? Can Roscoe move to Bold and Beautiful? And then keep him there?

I DONT KNOW WHAT ANY ONE ELSE THINKS BUT I THINK SHARON & BRAD SHOULD BE TOGETHER THEY ARE SO CUTE TOGETHER I THINK. NICK DOESNT CARE ABOUT HER AT ALL OR HE WOULD NEVER SLEPT. W/ PHILLIS.

Look to be a lot of interesting changes in the New Year! One or more soap mags reports that the character of Lily is coming back. I have a feeling - not a rumor, just my own instinct - that it will be Christel Khalil coming back as Lily; I've had a feeling all along that probably people in charge of Y&R, and her own management team, have been trying to talk her into coming back. At barely 18 years old, she may or may not have enough experience and maturity to have made the right decision to leave. I could be wrong of course. Whomever plays the part, will be interesting to see "Lily" back on the canvas.

As those who have been following our Programme since the Mid 1990's may recall, there have been several Episodes in Prime-Time since then, the Latest being, if I recall correctly, in Early 1998 when Mr. Viscardy(i?) and Miss Turner were apprehended at the Airport when attempting to take Miss Cassie away with them. In the Fall of 1995, Miss Blair visited an Institution in Chicago, where Miss Amy Wilson was being housed, to convince her to return to Genoa City where she eventually confessed to having shot Mr. Matt Clark, thus gaining Mr. Nicholas Newman, who had been falsely accused by Mr. Clark of that Crime, his Freedom. And, possibly most thrilling of all, Mr. Victor Newman was shot on the Evening of the Daytime Emmys in 1996.

I would personally be pleased were Miss Khalil to return as Miss Winters, but would prefer that she be willing to do so!

There are Rumours abroad that Miss Carter is to soon exit the Programme, one of them having this happening as early as this Week. I will not miss that Character should these Rumours prove true, but wish Miss Brown, who is obviously capable and apparently kind to her Public from what I hear, well in whatever good thing(s) she may undertake thereafter!

I am not pleased with "hedge Clipper's" Women-Hopping/Two-Timing.

Miranda, you're not the only one who thinks that Christel may be reprising her role. I'm glad I not the only one who was thinks that she may be back. I just don't understand why there's such secrecy surrounding who will be playing Lily if the part has already been re-casted. We'll be finding out soon enough and I can't wait!

Posted by: Brandy77 at January 3, 2006 11:52 AM

I can't wait for Lily to return as well! I am so looking forward to Lily and Daniel reuniting and their parents going crazy, haha. I am also looking forward to the scenes with nuColleen and JT. I really hope they have good chemistry.

I'm also enjoying this complex romantic rectangle, or should I say octagon, lol, with Sharon, Nick, Brad, Phyllis, and Vikki. Keep up the great work! I remember a few of the primetime episodes of Y&R and I think they should do another one soon. I don't know if it should be a frequent thing, but doing it once in a while would be a nice treat.

Posted by: Sarah at January 3, 2006 8:10 PM

Why don't they air Y&R reruns on Soap Network? I have been an avid watcher for 20 years. What about coming out with a DVD??

Posted by: Lane at January 3, 2006 8:31 PM

VICKI and others:

AMEN! How in the world could ANYone drive from Miami to Genoa City (Maybe close to 2,000 miles) that quickly? Hey, I live in South Florida. Here to ANY state is a long drive.

Also, as Lauren was wielding a shovel at the vent in hopes that she would jar it loose yesterday, did we forget that gas had seaped into their confinement? Let's see, metal against metal can cause a spark, and then BOOM!

The writers are asking us to buy in to way too much with this storyline. Could we just get it over with already?

PS - Brad and Sharon, now THEY have chemistry! Brad and Vicki, nope. JT and Mac, nope. And I hate to say it, but I don't think that Phyllis and Nick have any chemistry, though Phyllis is so good, she pulls it off.

Posted by: Joe at January 4, 2006 11:29 AM

HI, I AM HAPPY THAT TOM IS OUT, BUT I WOULD LIKE THAT THIS TIME SHEILA IS CAUGHT AND NOT DIE OR GET AWAY. J.T AND MAC NEED TO MAKE UP THEIR MINDS IF THEY ARE GOING TO BE TOGETHER OR NOT. I DO NOT THINK THAT BRAD AND VICTORIA MESH AT ALL. SHARON AND NICK SHOULD BE BACK TO THEIR BETTER PART OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP IT HURTS ME TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON BETWEEN THEM. I ALSO NEED TO SEE LILY BACK ON THE SET IF IT IS POSSIBLE. JILL NEEDS A SOLE MATE TO KEEP HER COMPANY IT IS TOO LONG NOW. NICK NEEDS TO BACK OFF OF BRAD'S BACK AND BE BACK IN A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS VICTORIA. SO FAR GOOD SHOW AND I AM WISHING YOU AND YOUR CAST A HAPPY NEW YEAR AND A PROSPEROUS 2006.

Posted by: SHEENA RYAN at January 4, 2006 11:58 AM

Does Y&R have less space to work than it used to? We haven't seen the Jabot set in what seems like nearly a year. We almost never see Jill at her office, or Jack at his. In fact we NEVER see the Abbotts working anymore, only the Newmans. It's beyond ridiculous that we have Nikki, Jill, Phyllis, etc. having business meetings at the coffeehouse and the Athletic Club! People conduct business meetings in their OFFICES--not out in public.

Please bring back the Jabot set, and give the business storylines more credibility and balance. Make the Athletic Club smaller if you have to. It seems way too big, anyway!

In the new storylines for 2006, will there be a new Newman baby " Come September " ?

Love your show !!!

Mary Ann

Posted by: Mary Ann at January 4, 2006 6:17 PM

Brad & Sharon have great chemisty. J.T. and the new Mac have totally none. Stil wondering what was the " Nick & Phyllis " thing all about ? Could the red head finally get her wish and have a baby ?
Would like to see more of Victor in a major storyline this year.
So, can't wait to see what you have in mind for the residents of Genoa City. Y&R continues to be the best Soap on TV. Thanks !

Posted by: meghan at January 4, 2006 7:29 PM

Would like to say that you have an super-awesome show but I was Sorry to see Tom killed off, he was good at being bad.

And, I would like to see Brad and Sharon get together at least once in 2006. Now, those two can really heat up a screen! If you can't be good, be good at it !

Posted by: James at January 4, 2006 7:47 PM

Poster LisaJ is absolutly right. The Abbots are NEVER at work. It's no wonder they're always in debt. They pay their employees way too much for what they do. They go to work for five minutes and then go the GCAC for a drink and then they make personal visits to their friends for a 2 minute coversation (sometimes all the way out to the Newman ranch). When usually a simple phone call would suffice! I think I would love to work at Jabot under that kind of felixibilty!
I guess that's why we love our soaps. The unreasonable aspect of things. Have we even noticed that there isn't a person on the show who is middle-class and not very wealthy?? Except for the villians maybe. It just gives us something to look forward to everyday, at least for me.

Posted by: SheebaFAN4LIFE at January 5, 2006 10:58 AM

Heyy...Iam a huge Y&R fan...lol Ive watched it since I was born...lol my mom got me hooked. The storyline right now with sheila and lauren. Wow Has me on edge. But I love it! happy new year everyone!

Posted by: Jenny at January 5, 2006 12:43 PM

Hey. I cant beleive tom got killed off...and that ashley of all people did it...but then I relized. Like all soaps sometimes its not always what it seems. Lol I love it. I wonder what sheilas gonna do next...shes a badass! Well Happy new year. And keep bringin us the drama!

Posted by: Jenny at January 5, 2006 12:57 PM

Everyone is hinting about "red" getting pregnant, but isn't there some reason why she can't? I remember that came up when her and Jack first got together. Diane used to rub it in her face. Am I confused? Then again, won't THAT be a bombshell in the Newman/Abbott feud?

ATTENTION WRITERS: Jack doesn't have to be upset at the girls for taking their idea to Victor. He could fund the whole thing and Jack couldn't be happier! In business, if you work for a company and discover the cure for cancer, THE COMPANY owns it, not you, because you work for the company. So, if Victor wants to fund something that Jabot employees are developing, that would be zero dollars out of Jack's pocket. That would make Jack look like a hero CEO. And if ANYONE knows this, it would be the billionaire business tycoon Victor Newman.

I wounder if there will be any location shoots in 2006. I love it when they go outside the studios I hope for many more. I know they are expensive but the bring a lot to the show and give it a more real feel. Many European soaps are outside almost everyday. This one you could hardly tell they went outside because I thought they did this in the studio. The resent ones tend to be shoot only around L.A. I want to see a big international one where the show teams up with B&B for a fashion show and a Beauty of Nature commerical shoot. Plus, they need exterior shouts to get a sense of Genoa City. Only twice have we seen the outside of the Abbot mansion and once the Loft. This past summer with Lily and Daniel in Malibu was one of the best remotes the show has every done. KEEP THEM COMING

Posted by: Miles at January 5, 2006 11:27 PM

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Christel Kahlil is reprising her role as Lily. The fact that everyone is being so secretive and cryptic about the recast makes me think this is what will happen.

I am also sick of Jack's attitude!!! He needs to get over himself and allow Nikki and Phyllis to investigate the feasibility of the spas. There is no reason for Jack to hold these two women back. If he tries to thwart them, I hope it comes back to bite him in the @@@ BIG time!!!

Posted by: iluvsoaps2005 at January 7, 2006 11:24 AM

Phyllis had an ectopic pregnancy, and almost died. Her chances of having another child are practically nil, but this is soapland so I can see it happening, although it won't be Nicks child, it'll end up being Jacks child. (prediction)

Posted by: Diane at January 7, 2006 3:45 PM

Hate the idea that Mac has kissed Kevin, i am so disgusted with Nick and his attitude towards Sharon. I am tierd of Jack and his obssession with Victor.Hope Lily will return home

Posted by: marsha at January 8, 2006 12:34 PM

I'm a big fan of the Y & R and have been watching for 20 plus years. I agree that Brad and Sharon are great together and make for an exciting show. Nick and Sharon are no good any more. Let's move on and let them go their separate ways. Also, I'm sick of Shelia, she needs to die for good. And, for heaven sakes, let the business folks work in their offices!!! It's unbelievable that they are always sitting around the pool/club on business. Makes the show seem unreal. I love this show, but it needs some new blood and new 'happenings' soon!

Happy New Year!

Posted by: Cindy at January 8, 2006 4:32 PM

I must say, I like the idea of " red " ( Phyllis ) becoming pregnant .... but, with everyone " thinking" it's Jack's baby ( girl ) But, since this is soap-land, it would give more interesting storyline if it would be Nick's. Hey, think about it, a brass & sassy, girl with red hair, who could grow up and fall in love with Noah.... Oops & Oh, brother, literally !... U'mm, guess we just did that with Mac & Billy as first cousins, though, huh ? ... it would create lots of interesting storyline for the next few years and perhaps add a little feuding fuel to the Newman ~ Abbott growing clan ..... and, " the beat goes on --- just hope that I haven't lost my drummer !

Posted by: Marie at January 10, 2006 11:50 AM

Christel Khalil as Lily will no longer be on the show. Her agent screwed that up for her!!! Davetta Sherwood will be the new Lily and will do an excellent job! She's a Sista!!! Should add some chocolate flava to the programming....

I have watched Y&R for approx. 40 years and I would just like to say that I am absolutely fed up with Nick. I don't blame Sharon for whatever she does. They have always been a great couple and had it all. Nick is a spoiled brat and I'm just sick of him.

Posted by: Janet Isaacs at January 31, 2006 7:28 AM

I have been watching the show for the past 5 years. Let me tell you all that I have always enjoyed every minute of it, But i must say that I think Jack Abott is an awful actor, but I enjoyu everyone else. My husband got me hooked on the show, and we both watch it together.

Rumor is.....Christel Khalil is coming back to young and the restless as lily. She'll be back next week. The week of Oct 2.
