« Ed Scott's Location Diary | Home | Fourth of July Fashions »
Today, we're shooting on the beach, and sometimes people will walk through a scene. Now, if it's a pretty girl, we don't mind. Right now, it's getting a little chilly out here, and windy. But the interesting thing about it is that when you watch this on camera, it doesn't seem like it's windy.
We have a really great crew out here. Ray Thompson, who usually lights in the studio, and who's just a brilliant, genius lighting guy, is out here with us. And we have Nora Wade, our production associate. Nora's the one who's always tapping me on the back, saying, "Hey, can we do this? Can they say this? Should she wear this? Should she not wear this? Is the hair okay? Do you mind if it doesn't match?" Then I say, "no I don't mind," and she says, "Per Ed, it's okay." Then later, when we start editing, I get in trouble. We also have our assistant director, Robbin Phillips, who's fantastic.
And I can't forget to mention Bill Hultstrom, our set designer. He's got the vision. Bill makes this location stuff out here look the same as our sets in the studio. Bill has a great eye, and he helps us find locations. He's a really talented guy.
These people are the greatest people to work with. It's so much fun, and we've shot a ton of stuff. If we were shooting a movie, we would be shooting maybe six pages at the most. I'm sure we've shot about fifty pages these last two days!

Those scenes were absolutely amazing!! You people at Y&R are really geniuses. I want to be on your show sooo badly!!
One thing tho---you really need to update the OPENING CREDITS. You should go back to the way it was in the 90's (before the horrible "red" version) Change it to something similar to the ones they have on B&B and the ABC shows. So you can edit it easier.

Thank you for your info. I am writing on a diffrernt topic please tell me that Gloria has some deep dark secret like she is still married to Tom and the marriage to John is not legal i think it is time for Gloria to go and take Kevin with her.

Mr. Scott, congruatulations on your wedding anniversary, Melody is a talented and beautiful actor.
Do you think you can change the opening credits a bit? Showing the actors in full length and in color is so much more visually stunning.

I personally would not mind if the Fishers left, but so many of you like the Actor portraying Mr. Kevin Fisher, and he is not really annoying me these Days, so I suppose I can tolerate them both for at Least a Time.

I should have said "all three" since, of Course, there are three Fishers and not just two.

Hello Mr. Scott I must say that the Y&R scenery presently are totally marvellous, especially on the beach. You guys are just great. I am from a country in the caribbean and watching you out there it's so much more wonderful. I hope when the truth comes out about Daniel and Cassie it would be touching. I cant wait!!!
All time Y&R FAN.

Loved reading Ed Scott's tidbits. It's the behind the scenes stuff that adds to the enjoyment of the show.
I am curious about the 'stuntwork" between Joshua and Michael. That sounds like someone must have "peeled" somebody's costume off! LOL.
I might add that it's wonderful that Ed Scott returned to the show.
I'll be watching CBS Celebrity Weddings July 5th when Ed and Melody renew their vows and were generous enough to share this special moment with their fans!

I loved the location at the beach...makes me want to be there!

Just a couple of comments - Please tell me that Cassie didn't really die - she is just dreaming all of this right? I keep waiting for her to "come to." How are you going to get Daniel out of this mess? This is lasting way to long, I find myself fast forwarding through parts of the show cuz it is just to unbeliebable. STOP
Also, I feel like Nick's actions are just too unbelievable. I don't think too many parents would have that much hate and it is ridiculous that people are so mean to Phyllis - she is not totally responsible for her teenagers actions. I hate seeing Nick look so evil - it makes him ugly in looks as well as actions.
I have always loved this show for it's great story lines but am having trouble enjoying watching it lately.
I just discovered this part of the web site and find it very interesting. Thanks!

The opening credits do need to be updated more. I really liked it when the big YR flashed onto the screen and crossfaded between the acts. It made it seem flowing and didn't interupt the flow of the show like it does now...

Time to update the openings...PLEASE!!! You have stopped using so many there are only 2 openings used now. Wheres Gloria, Mac, Victoria, Daniel?
And I think everyone used to love the openings from the 90s. Why did you change it? To me, that WAS the Young and the Restless.

I was not going to comment, I never do... I don't even think this is the correct place for this conversation - but getting rid of the Fishers?!?! NO WAY! They are GRRREAT! I love Michael Baldwin (my personal favorite!) and the Fishers add so much drama and comedy... the ultimate! Great actors...
(p.s. love the l.a. storyline with the "runaways"... something romantic about the whole scenario)

I really don't mind Michael but Gloria and Kevin, especially Gloria they should go.

Hey Y&R....
I am not a spap fan at all...i dont watch any of them but Y&R..AWESOME show.
One of the best things for me,and the biggest differences is in that THESE actors dont act..they really sound like they are just talking..with a bit of dramatic flair..
I am really hoping that more ppl will write in and veto the cutting of John Enos's character..
hes a great guy and hes SO HOT..lol i feel like a 14 yr old when i say that, but hes a very attractive man.
AND PLEASE DONT GET RID OF THE FISHERS!!!!...GREG RIKKART and CHRISTIAN LEBLANC are incredible at those roles.
And after this Daniel storyline is dealt with..can we please see some happy stuff with sharon and nick???...that man needs to smile more..and it seems like all he does these days is scowl in a business suit, or scowl at something else...i know hes going thru hell right now with cassies death, but when the tiem comes, PLEASE MAKE HIM SMILE!! lol.
Aside from that....Y&R is an amazing show and i was shocked and upset that it didnt get Best Soap this year at the daytime emmys..dont think anyone else deserves that one but u...
AMAZING show!!!....thank you for the great job!!!

I doubt I'd be watching this show anymore if it weren't for the Fisher/Baldwin family.
Why is the writing so lame these days?? What starts out as a potentially good storyline never ends up that way, I'm talking about the Lily/Daniel storyline, I hope it ends soon.
Posted by: Diane at July 1, 2005 2:19 PM
I think the writers at the helm have yet to find a balance for the length of a storyline. Either they are cut short (Arthur/Katherine) and draaaag on for ages (Winters paternity issue or runaway fugitives). You really need to work on that.

Keep doing location shoots. Alot of soaps from around the world are outside a lot more and you get a better feel of the city. Or do what B&B does with opening with city and house shoots.

Sorry, folks, but the opening credits are great. Maybe some updated ones with new pictures and additional characters, but please don't change them. Then again, if you do, please do NOT go back to the ugly disco RED ones from a few years back.
Sandy, are you kidding? Gloria is FABULOUS! Definite spark that the show needed.

Hello there,
Just had to send a comment about some of the new and absolutely outstanding actors on the show. Greg Rikkart and John Enos, Michael Graziadei and Roscoe Born. These new actors have made a great difference in the show. "Bravo" to them all. I love watching all of you, and "Hooray" to the Fisher clan for bringing us closer to real people, along with Bobby Marsino, who I hope they keep on the show instead of getting him go. Now, if they would only bring back, David "Shark" Fralick !!!
